Your automatic pool cover works hard every single day. Between sun
exposure, pool chemicals, moisture, heat, and daily use, the fabric takes on a
lot over the years. Most pool cover fabrics naturally begin to wear down
around the 5 to 7 year mark, and when that happens, you do not always need
to replace the entire system. In many cases, a fabric replacement is all it takes
to restore your cover to full performance.
Here is how to know when it is time, and what your options are.
Signs Your Pool Cover Fabric May Need Replacing
Your cover will usually give you clear signals when the fabric is starting to go.
The most common signs to look out for are fading and discoloration, which
happens when years of UV exposure and pool chemicals break down the
surface layer. You may also notice the scrim, which are the white fibers
underneath, starting to show through the fabric. That is a sign the material is
deteriorating from the outside in..
Other things to watch for include color rubbing off onto your hands when you
touch the fabric, fraying or torn webbing along the seams, and fabric that has
become stiff or brittle and harder to operate smoothly. Small tears or holes
under two inches can often be patched, but larger damage or multiple weak
spots usually mean it is time for a full fabric replacement. Persistent puddles
on top of your cover can also point to leaks.
If your cover has been in use for five or more years and you are noticing any of
these signs, it is worth getting it evaluated.
You May Not Need to Replace Everything
Not every pool cover problem requires starting from scratch. Mizu offers three
replacement options depending on the age and condition of your system.
Fabric replacement is the most common option. You keep your existing
mechanism and components and simply swap out the worn fabric for a new
one. This restores the appearance, performance, and safety of your cover at a
fraction of the cost of a full replacement.
Partial system replacement is a good fit when components like ropes, sliders,
pulleys, or webbing are worn but the overall system is still in decent shape.
Replacing those parts can extend the life of your cover significantly.
Full system replacement is for older or heavily damaged systems where the
mechanism, tracks, motor, and fabric all need to go. Mizu can handle the full
replacement from start to finish.
What You Get With a Mizu Replacement Fabric
When you replace your fabric through Mizu, you are getting a 17-ounce
heavy-duty vinyl that is certified for safety, UV and chemical resistant, tear and
abrasion resistant, and built with minimal shrinkage to maintain a secure fit
over time. We custom-build replacement fabrics to fit most automatic pool
cover brands and systems, not just our own.
We also use Coverstar’s patented heat-sealed webbing technology, which
fuses the webbing directly to the fabric instead of stitching it on. The result is
a bond that is over two times stronger than traditional sewn webbing,
lab-tested for long-term durability, and backed by a 7-year warranty.
Replacement fabrics are available in 10 colors including Navy, Royal Blue,
Light Blue, Aqua, Forest Green, Tan, Mocha, Grey, Charcoal, and Black, with
color-matched heat-sealed webbing available as well.
